Lesotho is a country in South Africa. It has only a neighbour. It's neighbour is South Africa.It has an area of 30,000 km2 It's population is 2.000.000. Its capital and largest city is Maseru. Country gained independence from United Kingdom in 1868. Lesotho is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Lesotho Government is a parliamentary or constitutional monarchy. The prime minister is head of the government. It's old name is Basutoland.

Its lowest point of 1,400 metres. It is the only independent state in the world that entirely above 1,000 metres in elevation. Over 80% of the country lies above 1,800 metres. So it is one of the highest country in the world.Winters can be cold. Most of the rain falls as summer thunderstorms.
Lesotho's official languages are Sesotho and English. The population of Lesotho usually is Christian (%90). Other public is Muslim, Hindus and Buddhists.Public is very poor. There are only 5 physicians per 100,000 persons. HIV and AIDS are serious problem in Lesotho. AIDS patients are 290.000 people in country.According to 2009 estimates, the prevalence is about 23.6%, one of the highest in the world.

Lesotho'nun resmi dilleri İngilizce ve Sesotho dilidir. Ülkedeki nüfusun %90'ı Hristiyandır. geriye kalan %10'u ise Müslümanlığa, Hinduizme ve Budizme inanır. Ülke çok fakirdir. 100.000 kişiye 5 doktor düşer.
